Lacey Theatre Company was founded in 2004 by actor and award winning author, Rob Lacey. Together with a group of young actors, Rob sought a fresh approach to theatre and storytelling to create accessible and innovative theatre for all.
Now touring in community venues, schools, prisons and conferences we tell old stories in a new, everyday way, seeking to create original work that both entertains and inspires.
LTC’s theatre in education programmes provide the opportunity for thousands of young people every year to engage with creativity and storytelling. These are a great way for young people to explore and pose big questions, in a range of subjects and a chance for schools to provide high impact learning days to enrich the curriculum.
We love telling stories, making jokes, and asking questions. We also love meeting and working with new people so if you’ve got a creative itch that you can’t scratch on your own, give us a shout.
Rob left his job in a bank at 24 when his manager caught him performing a rotating headstand on an office chair. They both realised he probably wasn’t in the right job! He went on to train at the Desmond Jones School of Mime and Physical Theatre and was a founding member of Trapdoor Theatre Co. before he went solo in 1992. His published work includes bestseller the word on the street (formerly known as the street bible) and The Liberator.
He married the international dancer and choreographer Sandra Harnisch-Lacey, who is Artistic Director of Harnisch Lacey Dance Theatre, see harnischlacey.com
In 2004 Rob and Sandra founded Lacey Theatre Company, a community of young actors mentored by Rob, who now perform his work, as well as producing new material of their own. Rob and Sandra have two children, Lukas and Magdalena.
Sadly on May 1st 2006 Rob passed away after bravely facing cancer. He is greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
